Don Bosco - MRF Cricket Festival 2011

By Bosco Media Club
Chennai, Feb. 5. The grand Finale of the Don Bosco - MRF Cricket Festival under Floodlights was held on the 4th of February 2011. The two clashing teams were the two Salesian schools, St. Bede's Anglo-Indian Hr. Sec. School, Santhome and Don Bosco Matriculation Hr. Sec. School, Egmore. The Guests of Honour were Mr. L.K. Sikri, Deputy General Manager of Union Bank of India and Mr. J. Lakshmi Narasimman, Chief Manager of UBI Egmore Branch. A warm and cordial welcome was extended to them by the DB community.
The match was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Amalraj Thomas, Rector & Correspondent, DB-Egmore and the Silver Jubilarians of 1985 Salesian First Profession batchmates added colour to the start of the grand event. DB-Egmore won the toss and elected to field. It was a stunning start to the Bedeans as they lost their wickets in close succession. Finally Master Daryl S. Ferrio and Master Vishal Sundar put up a 107 runs stand and led the team to 164 for the loss of 7 wickets.
DB-Egmore began its batting with a classic start but went down with the loss of all the top order batsmen with just 84 on board. They scampered through the 30 overs just managing 145 for the loss of 8 wickets giving the visitors a thumping victory. It was a classic finish with the St. Bede's Anglo-Indian Hr. Sec. School winning the Trophy by 19 runs.
The Trophy was handed over to the winning team by Rev. Fr. Stanley Ignatius, Principal, DB-Egmore, while Rev. Fr. John Santhosam and Rev. Fr. Berkmans, Former Principal's of both Finalists honoured the players of both teams with individual mementoes. Rev. Fr. Gregory, Principal of the winning team gave away the Runner-up trophy to the hosts. Master Washington of St. Bede's team won the  Best Batsman award and the Best Fielder award went to Master Porchelvan of the same team. Master Ajith and Master Kiran Akash of DB-Egmore won the Best Bowler and All Rounder awards respectively. The Cricket Festival came to a successful end by 11:45 p.m.
Though the Final was played between two children of the same Salesian Family, it was Salesian Spirit and Sportsmanship that won at last as the winning team proudly carried away the Trophy with the Runners-up cheering them joyfully, not to mention the vigour for another battle next year.
