Chennai, Jan. 31. 31st January 2011 was an immense joy to the Salesian Community of Don Bosco, Egmore as His Grace Rev. Dr. A.M. Chinnappa - Archbishop, Madras - Mylapore graced the day with his august presence to inaugurate the monument of St. John Bosco together with St. Dominic Savio and Bl. Laura Vicuna in the school premises.
The Holy Eucharistic Celebration was grandeur of the day, with the auditorium filled with the presence of parents, catholic students and staff members. The main celebrant of the feast day mass was His grace Rev. Dr. A.M. Chinnappa - Archbishop of Madras - Mylapore. The Parish Priests of Pudupet and Nungambakkam together with Rev. Fr. Rector and Rev. Fr. Principal concelebrated the Holy Eucharist. The Archbishop in his Homily addressed the students on the importance of the day and advised to take St. John Bosco as their role model for a holistic and integral growth. The school choir with its glorious singing added colour to the day and bringing the spirit of love, joy and peace.
His Grace Rev.Dr. A.M. Chinnappa-Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore officially inaugurated the DB-MRF Cricket Tournament on the 31st of January 2011 at 10:30 a.m. marking the feast of our Patron Saint. The Archbishop in his short and precise message threw light on the role of a sportsman. A cricket ball was presented to the team captain of Don Bosco - Egmore and a cricket bat was offered to the team captain of Dominic Savio- Santhome.
Don Bosco is a saint of all times. He lives among us adapting to the signs of the times. Don Bosco is relevant as long as young people are in this world. Don Bosco, though two hundred years old still lives among us and inspires us in every field we enter into whether it is Music, Sports, Studies, Discipline, Religiosity, obedience, love for the church and what not. Don Bosco is not out dated with the upcoming new trends and techy lifestyles. He was relevant to the street urchins of Italy in the nineteenth century as he makes life meaningful to the folks of 21st century today. If Don Bosco was not meaningful, we would not have 15,952 Salesians in the world which includes Bishops and novices spread all over 92 provinces and in 136 countries (as per the statistical data presented on Dec. 31st 2009)
Don Bosco is an evergreen saint.
