Pre-Novitiate House 'Bosco Home' Inaugurated By Joseph PulinthanathShillong, May. 31. With the inauguration of 'Bosco Home', the new Pre-novitiate house of the Province of Silchar on 26th May 2016, the little known village of 'Herma' in Tripura's Sepahijala district has found a place on the Salesian map. Bosco Home is the newly built formation house where candidates wishing to enter the Novitiate will spend a year in preparation. For the past nine years, the one-year Pre-Novitiate course was held, on a temporary basis, at Mariamnagar Parish in Agartala.
Father George Maliekal, the Provincial inaugurated the new house and Bishop Lumen Monteiro of the Agartala blessed it. Presiding over the Holy Eucharist that followed, Bishop Lumen, quoting the Rector Major, Artimede Angel Fernandez reminded the Salesians of the predilection they have for young people who are poor and most in need of help.
On behalf of everyone present, particularly the Salesians, Father George Maliekal the provincial thanked and felicitated Bishop Lumen on the 20th anniversary of his Episcopal ordination and the birth of the Diocese. It was on 26th May 1996 that the Holy Cross Priest Lumen Monteiro was ordained Bishop and the new Diocese of Agartala inaugurated.
It was the undivided province of Guwahati that in 2007 decided to have the Pre-Novitiate phase of formation of its formees in Tripura. The Pre-Novitiate at Mariamnagar also became the first formation house of the Salesians in the state. The idyllic settings of Herma and the numerous tribal villages that dot the area, it is hoped, will provide an even better ambiance for the formation of the pre-Novices.
Father Maliekal, the Provincial thanked everyone who contributed to Bosco Home in various ways - the communities of the province for the solidarity they showed through financial contribution, the benefactors, and individuals who worked hard to make Bosco Home a reality, among them Father KK Joseph and Father Thomas Pampadyil particularly. He pointed out that Bosco Home has a triple role to fulfill: that of a formation house, an educative community and an evangelizing community.
Father Thomas Mathew Kannala, the Rector of Bosco Home added his own sentiments of gratitude to everyone for being present on the occasion.
