Shillong, Dec. 20. Dr. (Fr) Barnes Mawrie of Silchar Province has raised the bar of excellence and enhanced his academic credentials by successfully completing yet another PhD. The versatile Salesian from the suburbs of Shillong who got his first doctorate in Catechetics and Youth Pastoral from UPS Rome, turned his focus to Anthropology and to North Eastern Hill University for his second PhD.
The topic of his research - ''From Maternal Uncle to Father: An Anthropological Study of the Changing Patriarchy in Khasi Society'', has unique relevance to the cultural mores of the Khasi tribe of Meghalaya, of which Fr. Barnes is an accomplished scholar and leader.

Dr. T. B. Subba, the Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University and former HOD of Anthropology Dept. in NEHU, was the supervisor of Dr. Mawrie in his painstaking research. At the Defense of his thesis, held on 23rd November 2013, scholars and academicians were all appreciation for Dr. Mawrie on his successful completion of the second doctorate.

A multitalented salesian, Dr. Mawrie is a much sought-after youth animator, artist, musician and author. He has also a host of publications to his credit in both areas of his expertise - catechetics and culture. Dr. Barnes is currently the President of Sacred Heart Theological College Shillong and also a professor at the same institute.
