''Don Bosco's Way'' Animation in Silchar Province By Daniel Dabitlang M Cajee SDBShillong, Aug. 28. In view of the bicentenary celebration of the birth of Don Bosco in 2015, the Province of Silchar organized a series of seminars lasting a full week in the various zones of the province, all based on the educational system of Don Bosco entitled ''Don Bosco's Way''. Fr Peter Gonsalves SDB from UPS was the resource person. A good number of Salesians, members of the Salesian family and teachers working in schools run by the Salesian Family participated in the Seminars.
The seminar was first held in Seling on the 17th August for the region of Mizoram; on the 19th in Nongpoh for the Ri-Bhoi area; in Pyndengrei on the 21st August for the West Khasi Hills region; on the 22nd in Anton Hall for those from Shillong region; and last of the series at Khliehriat on the 23rd August for Jaintia Hills Region.
The ''Don Bosco Way'' Seminar was well received by the participants, around 250 teachers, who found it very practical and relevant. The entire Seminar could be summed up as ''an eye opener to the method of Don Bosco to bring forth 'Honest citizens and True believers' by employing the DBWAY- Rapport, Reason and Religion''.
The facilitator, Fr Gonsalves, emphasized on the fact that the concept of 'Presence', being fully with the student, is a pre-requisite for the success and fruitfulness of this system. Each educator is called to be ''a sign and bearer of the love of God for young people''.
The seminar in each region took up about 6 to 7 hours. There were also group discussions as part of the sessions, during which the participants discuss in groups about the method of education prevailing in their own schools. The set back and negative consequences of the repressive method of Education was discussed elaborately, in contrast to the preventive and expressive methods of Education.
At the end of every seminar Fr Gonsalves distributed ''An Induction Programme on Don Bosco's way'' a manual authored by him - a veritable treasure box where one can find all the information necessary to understand the educational system of Don Bosco.
Coincidentally the method is found to be so much in consonance with the Right to Education (RTE) Bill of the Government of India, passed in 2009.
