SPCSA Economers Meet at Siloam, Shillong By Fr. George Maliekal, ProvincialShillong, Aug. 12. The Economers of the 11 provinces of Salesian India gathered at Siloam in Silchar Province for two day meeting on 9th and 10th of August, 2013. The economers gathered on 9th with Fr. Piotr Gozdalski to discuss and learn about such topics as Financial Reporting requirements at the Provincial level, the code of Ethics for management and administration. It has been a learning experience to understand the expected standards and processes of reporting and learning from the generation of such information at the Province and National levels. The discussions also dealt with the possibilities of cooperation between the provinces and the Generalate as well as the Foundations in the Salesian world. There was also information shared on ideas of achieving self-sufficiency as understood by the Constitutions as well as better understanding of the activities/projects for which there is needed specific permission from the Rector Major and the processes involved in the same.
The sharing of ideas and experiences from the various provinces has been one of learning for everyone present. The good practises and positive experiences of the different provinces has generated enthusiasm and encouragement.
On the 10th August, 2013 Bro. John Paul Muller the Economer General addressed the joint meeting of the Provincials and Economers of SPCSA . Also present was Fr. Maria Arokiam Kanaga, the Regional Superior of SPCSA. Bro. Muller in his address touched upon issues such as managing the property of the congregation particularly with regard to the documentation and updating of the same. He also dwelt upon the need for coordination and collaboration in areas related to seeking donations for the Salesian Mission, living the charism in the fuller way as well as giving attention to the 'Salesian Education' that we need to provide to the young people in our care. Bro. Muller also clarified to the group matters related to the required systems of functioning in the congregation in expressions of solidarity and dependence.
In the afternoon, the Economers continued the discussion with Fr. Piotr and Bro. Muller on issues of administration and governance. Fr. Maria Arokiam, the regional also joined in the last session to express appreciation and gratitude to Bro. Muller and Fr. Piotr in a special way for their availability to animate the economers of the region in matters related to the exercise of their ministry of administration. Everyone acknowledged the usefulness of the meeting for both the content and the experience of being together and sharing of experience.
