Silchar Province Celebrates Jubilee of Confreres

Shillong, May. 11. The Salesian Province of Silchar felicitated the confreres who celebrate the Jubilee this year, on 10th May 2013 at Don Bosco Technical School Shillong. The Jubilee celebrants of this year are Fr. Gervasis Kozhuppathadam celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of religious profession and Golden Jubilee of ordination, and Frs. Sebastian Palatty, Mathew Payappilly and Augustine Koottala celebrating the Silver Jubilee year of their priestly ordination.

Scheduled at the end of the Provincial Chapter, the Jubilee celebrations enabled large number of confreres, including Chapter members to participate and celebrate the fidelity of God that these confreres had wonderfully experienced for sixty, fifty and twenty five years. Fr. Jose Varickasseril who gave the homily at the Jubilee Mass pointed out that their work had given birth to new institutions and parishes, provinces and dioceses in Northeast India. The celebrations consisted of the Holy Eucharistic, felicitations and dinner.

Speaking on the occasion, Fr. George Maliekal, the provincial called confreres ''the true asset of the province''. He congratulated and felicitated each of the celebrants individually and thanked them for their tireless service of so many years. While thanking the Provincial, the confreres and all who came for the celebrations, the celebrants were emphatic that 'whatever little' they were able to do in the past, 'was all grace of God''. Archbishop Dominic Jala of Shillong and Bishop George Rajendran of Thuckalay were also present at the celebrations.
