Annual Youth Fest at Sacred Heart Theological College, Mawlai By Br. Bivan Mukhim SDBShillong, Sep. 11. As part of the preparation for the platinum Jubilee of Sacred Theological College, Mawlai (Shillong), the college organized a Youth Fest for the Khasi speaking youth of Shillong on 9 September. The theme for the program was 'Journeying with Christ; sharing our Faith'.
Presenting the theme of the program, Fr. Festus Shadap said that though many a youth want to follow the path of God, they end up their life in bad habits like drug addiction, smoking, drinking etc. ''Put your trust in God and not in men'', he added.
Minister for Information Technology and Water Resources, A.L.Hek said that the youth must follow the path of God and they should be a good example for others through their life. Mr. Hek was the chief guest for the morning section of the program.
''Service with love and happiness will bring you peace'', said Minister of Social Welfare, Mr. J A Lyngdoh. He said that he was happy to be part of the Oratory when he was young, as it taught him to be better prepared for the future. Mr. Lyngdoh was the chief guest for the evening section of the program.
''Choose the best for you... when you choose good things you will be good. If you choose bad things you will be bad. Serve God, parents and the people in the society for your own good. If we respect and love our parents, we will reach perfection in our life. We do not see God but God is seen in our parents. The way we serve and love our parents is the way we love God too'', he added.
Mr. Embhah Syiemlieh, the MDC of Mawlai exhorted the youth to follow God's ways. Citing examples from his own life he was able to drive home the need of the youngsters to prepare them for the betterment of the society. ''The youngsters are like the bridge that bridge the old and the children in our society'', he said.
Around 700 youngsters were present for the programme. Competitions were held in essay writing and Chart preparation on the Programme theme, and prizes distributed for the best submissions.
