Panjim, Apr. 18. The COVID-19 pandemic has not only threatened life, but has also unleashed fear, anxiety and deprivation, especially to migrants and daily-wage labourers across India. In this situation, the Konkan Development Society [KDS], the PDO [Province Development and Planning Office] of the Salesian Province of Panjim [INP] is doing its utmost to reach out to the deprived and stranded individuals and families in Kudal-Maharashtra, Sankeshwar-Karnataka and across Goa.
KDS in collaboration with its Childline Office reached out with food and other essentials like rice, wheat flour, cooking oil, lentils, sugar, soya chunks, soaps, onions and potatoes to stranded people in Tiswadi, Bardez, Salcete, and Mormugao Talukas of the Goa state.

Director KDS Father Francis Silveira said, ''the generous contributions of our benefactors was the backbone for the successful carrying out the reach-out programme to the most remote and isolated places.''

Asst. Director KDS Father Lawrence Monteiro said, ''the outreach was possible because of the cooperation of the selfless staff and their dedication to serve the poor and deprived of our society.  Besides distributing food and necessary items of daily use, KDS in collaboration with like minded Community Service Organizations also supplied cooked food to the needy.  As of 15 April 2020, around 2900 needy families and individuals benefited from the outreach organized by KDS.''

With the extension of the lockdown, KDS has resolved to continue reaching out to the most vulnerable of the society.
