Don Bosco Trasi,Udupi, Inaugurates The 7Th Batch Of Skill Training

Panjim, Apr. 29. The inauguration of the 7th batch of the Skill Development Training Program in collaboration with Accenture and Bosch India foundation for three months was held at Don Bosco Tech Trasi in April 2013.

Sir Vincent Fernandes, the State coordinator for Bosco South was the Chief guest for the occasion. Rev. Fr. Anand Noronha, Rector and Principal of Don Bosco School, Trasi, Sr. Rita D'Souza the Principal of Mary Mazzarello, ITI, Honavar and Rev. Fr. Leo Pereira, the Director of Don Bosco Tech, Trasi were present on the dais.

The program began with the lighting of the lamp followed with a Prayer dance. Sir Vincent addressed the trainees with the words of Swami Paramanand, ''With education if we don't imbibe and inculcate the good values, then your education is a waste''. He further insisted that we do not only learn the skills required for a job, but also imbibe good qualities for life. He briefed the gathering on how Don Bosco Tech, has now grown into a united youth agency to help address the problem of youth at various levels. We need to have two aspects, namely a skill and a will. They are two sides of the same coin, he said. Citing examples of Thomas Alva Edison and Narayan Murthi, founder of Infosys, he said that these men were successful only because of their will and hard work. He then encouraged the trainees gathered not to get discouraged if they have not completed their education due to various reasons, but that Don Bosco would do everything possible to address their problem. He wished the trainees the very best for the skill training and for success in life.

Rev. Fr. Anand Noronha, Principal & Rector of Don Bosco Trasi, who later spoke congratulated the Director Rev. Fr. Leo Pereira for the hard work and for moving ahead with six batches almost reaching to 450 youth who have been beneficiaries of the project. Addressing the trainees he said, ''Give the child a fish and he will live for a day, teach him to fish and he will live for a life time''. He emphasized the need for skill training and moral formation to live a sustainable and empowered life.

Fr. Leo Pereira, the Director quoting from the lines of the ''Road map for Salesian youth ministry'', of the SPCA, said that ''the youth are now the primary players and active participants in creating a future for themselves and the future of the society''. Citing examples of trainees from the previous batches, he said that many have taken the risk to take that first step of moving into the unknown. They are now confident, independent and transformed. Father pereira then thanked his team, Miss. Jacinth Gonsalves, Sir Oscar Pereira and Ton Roger for their hard work and dedication for the last six batches. He concluded saying that every batch was a miracle and he thanked God for the opportunities given to many youth who can now sustain themselves in life.

Mr. Prakash Gonsalves, welcomed the guests and Mr. Arun Fernandes, trainees from Hospitality proposed the vote of thanks.
