The Carpenter's Cross: Original Gospel Musical By Ralin De SouzaPanjim, Mar. 20. The Carpenter's Cross is the first original gospel musical production, composed and directed by Alfwold Silveira and produced by Don Bosco Oratory.
The Musical was performed for four consecutive days from 14th to 17th March 2013 at Don Bosco grounds Panjim. With a cast of around forty from different age groups, the musical play presents wide genres of music and lot of inspiration from the oft presented life of Christ.
The composer taking his inspiration from the Broadway hit 'Jesus Christ Superstar' presents the life of Christ through the eyes of a Carpenter (played by Melwyn) who is faced with the crucial dilemma of finding his own Saviour sacrificed on the altar of his own labour - the cross that he made. Will this be a condemnation to him or a source of salvation? The twenty-six varied songs bring to the fore the life of Christ that seeks to explain an answer the life of Christ.
Performed in honour of the International year of Faith proposed by Pope Benedict XVI that began last November, the Don Bosco Oratory in its third musical play wished to promote an event that would help people to reflect and deepen their faith. The much worked upon and thought provoking lyrics deepen ones faith and presents different issues of life.
The Music arrangements by Alfin Fernandes along with the neat and significant setting by Funky heads, along with the light and sound by Assis adds to the vigour of the story. The cast, which has a mix of young professional singers, and first timers with passion, is enough to create a mood to carry out the message significantly.
This is the third musical play in succession organised by Don Bosco Oratory, after its successful presentation of La Bamba (2011) and Godspel (2012).The final performance to the show will be held today (Sunday) at 6.45pm on Don Bosco grounds.
