Angadikadavu, Jul. 28. Emulating the human values of the Former and Late President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, on his sixth death anniversary, the students of Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu, felicitated four city cleaning staff of Iritty Municipality.
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam died on July 27, 2015, while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, collapsed and died from an apparent cardiac arrest, has left a legacy of respecting the lower cadre workers. It is appropriate to learn a lesson or two from the 'rocket-man' of India, Abdul Kalam, who was down-to-earth in his values and apply it to one's life, said Father Bastin, Rector and Manager of Don Bosco College, in his presidential address. As a mark of respect and honouring, the dignitaries on the dais moved back to make the cleaning staff occupy the front row.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers of the college with programme officers, Nithin Kuttan and Jisha E, organized the felicitation programme. The four workers, Prasanna, Thambhai, Rajeevan and Santhosh, representing the workforce of the Municipality, are in service for a decade and more; Santhosh being in service for 26 years. The Iritty Municipal Chairperson, Sreelatha K, draped the staff with shawls and gave away mementoes and gift coupons. She appreciated and thanked the workers for their dedicated service. ''The city is clean and liveable because of their unstinted service,'' said the Chairperson. The Kannur University NSS representative, Pradeesh Kumar, hailed the students for their service to society, especially the felicitation programme recognizing the lower cadre workers.
