Kolkata, Feb. 1.  Soanda --The Salesian College Sonada celebrated its 80th jubilee with a series of events starting with a national colloquium on Christian Higher Education held on 16 November in Kolkata with participants from five Catholic Uiveristies in India. It was followed by concert for parents of 1st year students and friends on 8th December 2017 and a second concert for parents of 2nd & 3rd year students and friends on 27th January 2018. It was followed by solemn Eucharistic Concelebration on 31st January presided over by Vicar General of Darjeeling diocese Father Fintan Moktan.
The Jubilee Concert started off keeping with SCS tradition revived after several years- the Salesian Brothers' orchestra, a 16 piece ensemble of wind, reed and percussion instruments including clarinet, saxophone, 2 violins, 2 keyboards, 4 accordions, 5 guitars and drums which played the piece entitled 'Lay All Your Love' under the baton of Brother Jitendis.

Invocation dance was followed by College choir which rendered the College Anthem, Let It Be by Beatles and a Nepali song Mahan Iswar.

A six minute video presentaion highighted the road to milestones of the 80 year journey of SCS concluding with the hope of gaining Autonomous status or becoming the first private university of Gorkhaland.

The English play entitled Riding Hood gave a modern twist in which girls need not always need a knight in shining armour to come to their rescue, instead an independant and courageous woman can save herself and her entire town's folk from the demon.

Among the graceful and energetic folk dances were Maruni, Tamang Selo, Chutki, Western and Falmenco dances.

Nepali play entitled Tekna Nahune Bhataharu by Niten Lama sent a strong message to parents to care for their college going sons and daughters.
Students Miss Ragini Chettri and Bruno Tamang anchored the two hour programme which concluded with vote of thanks by college student council president Ashwin Tamang.
