DON BOSCO HONOURED BY THE CITY OF AGARTALA

Guwahati, Jun. 17. Agartala, June 15: ''We are here in Tripura, as equal partners in collaborating with the state government in the social and economic development of the young people,'' said Fr. Joseph Almeida addressing the cabinet minister of rural development and industries, government of Tripura in the civic reception and unveiling of Don Bosco monument at Bankumari Intersection, Nandan Nagar, on 15th June, 2011 at 9.00 am.
For the first time during the journey of the pilgrim casket throughout the world, a state government has installed the statue of Don Bosco in a public square.
In a gesture that is unique and has been done only once previously on the occasion of his Canonization at the capital city of Shillong, in Meghalaya, the civil authorities in India gave the necessary permission to erect a statue of Don Bosco at the ''Tinali'' near Don Bosco School, Nandannagar, Agartala.
The honourable Minister, Government of Tripura, Shri Jitendra Choudhury, himself unveiled the monument. Present on the occasion were, Shri Sankarprasad Dutta, the Local MLA, Shri, Arunodaya Saha,The Vice Chancellor of Agartala University,  Shri Pophullajit Sinha, the chairman of the Municipality together with Rt  Rev. Lumen Monteiro, CSC, the Bishop of Agartala and Fr. Joseph Almeida, SDB, the provincial of the Salesian province of Guwahati.
During the Civic reception accorded on the arrival of the sacred relics of St. John Bosco, the dignitaries placed bouquets of flowers honouring Don Bosco as the Educator of Youth.
The occasion was marked by the release of the Documentary on Don Bosco, The Hand, scripted and produced by Fr. Joseph Pulinthanath, SDB, of Nandannagar. The presence of dance troops and the 900 strong Auxilium school children with flags added to the colour of the occasion.
