Tripura Plans Lasting Homage with Don Bosco Statue

Abroad, Jun. 10. AGARTALA - Tripura could be the only state in the entire northeast India honouring Don Bosco with a lasting memory by erecting his statue to commemorate the DB Relic visit, 14 to 16 June. A 7 feet statue of Don Bosco is to be unveiled by   Shri Jitendra Choudhury, Minister for Rural Development, Forest, Industry & Commerce, Govt. of Tripura at Bankumari Junction on the main road adjacent to Don Bosco and Auxilium schools. The structure, modeled after the statue at Don Bosco Square Shillong, has a 9 ft tall pedestal.
The Chief Minister, Shri Manik Sarkar expressed his regret at not being able to be present and do the honours. He will be away in Delhi from 14th to 17th. However, the head of India's sole Marxist Government has promised to pay floral tribute to the newly unveiled DB monument on his return from Delhi.

Some 320 students of Don Bsoco school Agartala will perform a top-class musical called 'The Dreamer' depicting the life of Don Bosco. It will be performed seven times in the 1,200 seater Don Bosco School Agartala auditorium.

Another unique attraction in store for Agartala people is 'Don Bosco Film Festival 2011'. Inaugurated on 15th June, it will feature films on Don Bosco. The screenings will be held at the 180 capacity mini AC auditorium of Don Bosco School.

'The Hand' a 25 minute documentary shot in the seven states of northeast India showcasing 90 years of the work of the sons and daughters of Don Bsoco will be the Opening film.

'Tripura pays Homage to Don Bosco' will be held immediately after the unveiling of Don Bosco's Statue. Groups, associations, institutions, political parties, NGOs, Youth Clubs and other groups will offer floral tribute to DB Relic.

Well known international theologian and northeast India scholar, Dr. (Fr.) Sebastian Karotemprel SDB will be on the panel at a meet the press program Friday 10th June to brief the Agartala press about the coming DB relics program.

Other highlights in the presence of the scared relic are Healing Prayer, inter-religious prayer and the concelebrated Holy Eucharist presided over by Holy Cross Bishop Lumen Monteiro.

The DB Relic which travels from Silchar is expected to arrive Agartala at about 3 pm on Tuesday 14 June. The relic will leave Agartala for Khliehriat in Jaintia Hills Meghalaya, 17 June early morning.
