BOSCO TEEN FEST 2011

By Chris Valentino sdb
Chennai, Feb. 15. The Department of Groups and Movements in the Salesian Province of Chennai (INM) organised a gala BOSCO TEEN FEST on Saturday, 12 February, 2011. Coordinated by Fr Antony Christy, the Province Youth Director, seven schools with 225 participants, members of the Bosco Media Club (BMC) and the Bosco Youth in Christ (BYC) enjoyed the day's programme to their hearts content.
Commencing with registration of the participants, the creative fete games put the boys and girls into top gear. Competing and vying for prize coupons saw the teens jostle, tussle and bustle around in glee. The victors went home with useful items that will stand them in good stead. The serious session commenced after the tea-break. The Media Club was addressed by Ms. Alathi, the Project Coordinator at DBICA< the Communication Centre of the province of Chennai, while the Youth in Christ had Rev. Fr. Kirubakaran, the Director of Deepagam, the Centre for Evangelisation and Catechesis in the province, speak to them.

Lunch was a sprightly affair with the teens getting ready to showcase their artifacts during the exhibition. The theme of the display for the Media Clubs was, ''Youth and Media'' while the same for the Youth in Christ was, ''Loving Christ is loving your neighbor.''  The Cultural programme prepared prior to the actual fest brought out the creative best in each participant. With points given for the Exhibition and the Cultural Competition, a team was adjudged the best and awarded the title ''TEEN STARS'' (for Media Clubs) and ''CHRIS TEENS'' (for Youth in Christ).
The teens went home after an exhausting day of fun 'n frolic, beaming with joy. Certificates of participation ensured that all's well that ends well. The animators of the groups were all praise for the event and hope that many such would be conducted at frequent intervals. Ravi, a class VII boy exclaimed: ''I am very happy. I won two prizes, plus I will be getting a certificate too. I would like if there was more time for this programme.'' Sherlin concurred ''I am very happy. I got to enjoy the day without anyone shouting or yelling at me. There should be more programmes like this.''

The community of St. Gabriel's - Broadway played gracious hosts by hosting the event and arranging every requirement. The youth volunteers from SIGA, Vyasarpadi and Ayanavaram managed the fete games and helped out throughout the day. Each animator received a calendar and a year-planner. It is given to understand that this is just the first edition of the Teen Fest 2011 and there is another coming up a week later, in a different region! The TEEN FEST 2011 is the precursor to the YOUTH FEST slotted for a later date.
