Bus Accident Kills One of DBCM

Dimapur, Dec. 17. Maram 17 Dec: Holiday joys of Don Bosco College were brought to an abrupt end when a passenger bus heading for Tungjoy village from Senapati district  head-quarters met with an accident before reaching the Makhan bridge at 2.00 pm on the last day of the examinations. The ill fated bus failed to negotiate a bend and fell into a gorge killing two.
The bus named Up-Land Travels had its history of accidents. Of the injured victims, 13 of them have been admitted in different hospitals at Imphal. The two deceased  passengers belonged to Shajoub and Makhel villages.  Adani Manehrri (Cl 11 F) studying in Don Bosco Hr. Sec. Arts and Commerce, Maram succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Angels in the form of 22 Assam Rifles of the 57 Mountain Divisions rushed to the spot with all their equipments and rescued the injured from the bus. The injured were taken to the unit hospital and were given medical care. Col. SB Rana himself was present in the hospital to give the direction. He put all his men to emergency duty and tried to save as many lives as possible. They were provided emergency care and treatment by Capt. Vishvendu and SMO Dy Comdt Phalgooni Chakma along with the medical team of the unit aided by Dy Comdt Debbrata Ray and RMO Capt Loujhem of 36 Assam Rifles and CMO, District Hospital who reached with their medical team for assistance. Dr. Peter and Dr. Kashung were also in the Army hospital to help out the injured ones. Don Bosco Alumni, led by Mr. Adani Peter organized help from Senapati to transport the badly injured ones to the District Hospital and other hospitals in the capital. Along with others he also collected finance for the immediate treatment of the victims in the district hospital.
A total of 35 or so passengers were injured out of which five were serious and they were shifted in Assam Rifles' Ambulances and District High Way Medical Care Ambulance to RIMS hospital, Imphal for further treatment. The public at large are very appreciative of the timely intervention of 22 Assam Rifles of Maram. Had it not been for their generous outreach many would have succumbed to their injuries. Don Bosco College authorities along with the lecturers, students, public authorities and well wishers who were present in the hospital of the Army Unit experienced timely intervention of the Army personal on the injured. Public as a whole would like to thank sincerely for their generous help.
