The first annual meeting of the commission for the Vocational Guidance was organized by the Vocation director Fr Chinnabathuni Showrilu, at DB Provincial house, Hyderabad on 28th November 2010.
After the presentation of the minutes and other reports of the previous meetings, the members moved forward to discuss on the effective Vocation promotion basing on the 26 points which were prepared by the national vocation promotion team that would be help every Salesian province of India. Another important task was updating the Vocational guidance plan for the year 2010-2011.
Fr Thathiredy Vijayabhaskar, the Vice Provincial reflected on creating a vocation culture in our Salesian Institutions and presences. He emphasized mainly on four points. 1. Vocation Proposal: He said vocation promotion is not a separate wing by itself; rather it is the work of every individual confrere. Thus, it is the task of every individual to welcome and propose to the young, the Salesian Vocation. 2. Accompaniment: after proposing and identifying the young accompanying in their life, continuous contact with them is very important. 3. Time is now: Fr T. Bhaskar, the Vice-provincial referring to Fr. Fabio Attard, the General Councillor for Youth Apostolate said, it is time now for India to recruit vocations for religious life, because of fast growing secularization. It is coming fifteen years we can be sure of some vocations and all should try earnestly to tap the vocations. 4. Two Concerns: another important truth he made known to us was, that 95% of vocations come not from our own Institutions but rather outside. From this we need to keep in mind two attitudes, that a) Don Bosco is known very much outside the Salesian circles b) The challenge is; why can't we raise vocations from our Institutions?
Decisions made in the Meeting:
a)500 extra copies of Bosco Margam must be printed for the vocation promoter for free circulation to the families.
b)Region vice camps are reduced to one single camp for fifteen days in the month of May.
