Alaihal Media's Photo Expo mesmerizes the Visitors By Francis GamaliyelTiruchy, Mar. 6. Thanks to the overwhelming response to photography the first edition of photo and short film contest organized by Alaihal Media became a runaway success. The contest cum expo was organized at Alaihal Media premises, Trichy, on 2-3 March 2013.
At the contest there were more than 200 entries in the photography category and 20 films in the short films category. To counter the popular idea of beauty and to celebrate the streets in which we live, the contest invited photos under the genre of Street Photography. What started as an in-campus initiative soon caught the imagination of people.
On seeing the popular demand it was thrown open to the public as well. Professionals, amateurs, students and photo enthusiasts all jostled with each other with cameras in hand to get the best photo to showcase their skill and win the prize.
Some walked through the streets of the city and the lanes in villages nearby for nearly a week looking for the right moment to frame the street in its raw beauty.
The photos were not merely picture perfect but had a story to tell. Some poignant photos brought the underbelly of the society to the fore. Some others highlighted the simplicity and joy that exists on the street in spite of adverse conditions.
All those who came to see the expo were stunned at the quality of the photos. It was a veritable visual treat. The prize winners walked away with a trophy and cash prize.
Film makers on their part submitted 20 short films on various social issues. The film titled ''Attention Please!'' on road safety won the first prize, while and Claymation movie, ''Change'' won the second prize.
Guests of the day, speaking on the occasion, heaped praise on Alaihal Media for this first-of-its-kind initiative in Trichy. Taking the cue from the success of this expo Alaihal has decided to conduct a few more expos to groom the talents of the budding photographer and short film makers.
