Merriment on the Feast Day of Don Bosco at Vidivelli - Tiruchy Province

By Thamburaj Vincent
Tiruchy, Feb. 24. 'Don Bosco With Us' was the slogan of Vidivelli Don Bosco on 30th January, 2011, where people from ten substations gathered together to celebrate the feast of Don Bosco at Vidivelli Don Bosco, Kalavasal. Every year the Salesians in Alangulam celebrate the feast of Don Bosco at Melanmarianadu with the teachers, Salesian Cooperators, friends and well wishers. A day with Don Bosco Vidivelli was a brand new idea. This year we wanted to celebrate the feast of Don Bosco with all the parishioners. The idea was novel and was welcomed by all.
At 11.00am the Eucharistic celebration commenced with an entrance dance by the small children from the R.C. Primary School, Melanmarainadu. It was a lively liturgy which set the right mood among the faithful. Fr. Anbarasan SJ, the director of Karisal, was the main celebrant of the feast day Eucharist. Fr. Aasirvatham, the parish priest of Madankovilpatti, Fr. Dennis Arockiasamy SDB, Fr. John Samuel SDB, and Fr. Jayaseelan SDB were the other concelebrants. There were more than 350 people actively participated in the Eucharistic celebration. In honour of the year of youth, 30 youngsters of the parish were given a Bible each. Hope this will help the youth to develop a habit of reading the Bible.

The day was marked with a singing competition immediately after the holy Eucharist. Each substation was invited to unveil their talents with five members each. Seven substations came forward to face the challenge.  Encouraging fact is that most of them were appearing on the stage for the first time. Thus the competition helped many of them to come out of their self. The Alangulam choir stood first, the second place was given to T. Mettur and the third place was secured by Melanmarainadu. Prizes were given for the winning contestants. Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the Bible Quiz which was conducted by the diocese. The parish was honored for getting three prizes from the diocese for the Bible Quiz.

At the end an agape meal was served for all the parishioners. They ate to the full and it was a happy end. A day with Don Bosco Vidivelli was a fruitful one. It helped the parishioners to be united. Love for Don Bosco has been deepened and the journey of the relationship between the Salesians and the parishioners has traveled an extra mile. May Don Bosco be with us! - Fr. Dennis SDB.
