Tiruchy, Jan. 31. Stop Drugs! A Mega Marathon Race
The history of Don Bosco, Alangulam, for the first time, has witnessed a mega Marathon Race in honour of the year of youth, of the feast of Don Bosco and to instill in people an awareness of the demerits of Drugs. The Salesians from Melanmarainadu and Kalavasal joined hands together to conduct this great event on 17th January, 2011. The race started from Alangulam Corner, proceeded through T. Karisalkulam, Kalavasal, Thommakulam, T. Mettur and ended in Alangulam Corner, covering 10 kms. There were 87 youth participated in the marathon race and 25 of them completed the race successfully. It was a happy event.

The whole ceremony started with a prayer song. Mr. Joseph, a sporadic speaker and the warden of Don Bosco Boarding at Melanmarainadu, attracted the crowd with his powerful welcome speech. Then a short introduction on the Marathon Race was given by Mr. Jesuraj, the Don Bosco youth president. The Chief Guest, Fr. Pari Vazhan, the parish priest of Ayan Nathampatti, appreciated and encouraged the Salesians for hosting the mega Marathon Race. Then the great Race was declared open by Mr. Kanesa Moorthi, the Alangulam Panjayet President and Mr. Ponnu Pondy. Mrs. Suba Lakshmi - the Vembakottai Chairwoman, Mr. Mohandhas - General Manager of TNC, Mr. Rajendran - Alangulam Councilor, Mr. Selvaraj, and Mr. Kanthasamy were the other well wishers for the day.

The winners were awarded valuable prizes. Mr. S. Seenivasan from Akkaraipatti was awarded 1 gram Gold Coin as the first prize. Mr. Jesudoss from Kandiyapuram got a cell phone as the second prize. Mr. M. Seenivasan from Akkaraipatti secured third place and took home a Mixi. And ten others were given consolation prizes. It was indeed a great event, an event which made Don Bosco known to the neighbours a little more.

To initiate the eradication of drugs in and around Alangulam, this Marathon Race had been a catalyst. And Don Bosco Alangulam is looking forward to many more Marathons for the cause of empowering people.
