Tiruchy, Jan. 27. Child Rights and Human Rights
''Promotion of Awareness on Child Rights and Human Rights among the Students'' was organized in the intervention localities of Don Bosco Tiruchy Province in Tamil Nadu, India. The names of the districts covered by the Salesians for the awareness promotion are Thanjavur, Tiruchy, Dindigul, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Ariyalur and Madurai. The Don Bosco Institutions at Madhakottai, Lalgudi, Dindigul, Vazhikaatti, Vilathikulam, Nettur, Therespuram, Varatharajanpet, Amsam and Madurai were the implementing regions of the awareness promotion. The aim of the awareness promotion was to educate and sensitize the school going students above the age of 14 years, on Child Rights and Human Rights. The target beneficiaries of the project were the students both boys and girls studying 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th standards, in the above mentioned locations. Totally 28,520 students from 73 schools in the targeted districts were educated on Child Rights and Human Rights. The students were sensitized on Human Rights and duties; Promotion of ethics and human values; and Child Rights and how they can help in their holistic development. The programme was executed in the second quarter of the academic year 2010-2011.
