The South Zone Salesian Cooperators Celebrate Salesian Spirituality Days

New Delhi, Jan. 28. The South Zone Conference of the Salesian Cooperators celebrated the Salesian Spirituality Days, on 25-26, January, 2014, at Don Bosco - Manikandam, Trichy.
The first day of the  9th South Zone conference commenced with a solemn prayer service led by Sr. Susai Pushpam FMA Delegate, Chennai. During the inaugural session Rev. Fr. Albert Johnson, Provincial of Trichy, Rev. Fr. Noel Maddichetty SDB, National Delegate of Salesian Family, Sr. Christina FMA Delegate of Salesian Family, Mr. K.V. Francis, World Councilor, SDB Delegates and provincial council members of the of Salesian Cooperators of six  provinces of the southern zone were welcomed  by Fr. Rajadevan SDB, Provincial Delegate, Trichy and Mr. Aseervatham, South Zone Regional Coordinator of Salesian Cooperators.

Right at the outset Mr. K.V. Francis, the world councilor briefed about the proceedings of various activities of the cooperators in the National level and presented the message given by the Rector Major to the Salesian Family during his recent visit to Kolkata.

In the Inaugural address Rev. Fr. Albert Johnson, the Provincial of Trichy, welcomed every one, to the province of Trichy. In his message he emphasised about the role of Salesian cooperators and works of Salesian Cooperators in the Province of Trichy.  He urged the cooperators to understand the call of the Salesian Cooperator, as a call within a call.

Rev. Fr. Noel Maddhichetty, National delegate, introduced the theme of the Salesian Spirituality days, by focusing on the challenge of the Salesian Family, to meet God through the young people and to arrive at a better understanding of Salesian Spirituality today.

After the coffee break Rev. Fr. James Theophilus SDB, vividly explained, the meaning of ''Spirituality'' and elaborated on the main theme of Salesian Spirituality, drawing inspiration from Salesian sources and from his own experiences. Sr. Christina Kharkongor, FMA,  National delegate for the Salesian Family, shared her views on salesian spirituality quoting many episodes from the life of Don Bosco.  

After Mr .V. Bosco, the Regional Secretary had presented the report of the VIII Southern Zone Conference followed by the presentation of accounts by Mr. Moses, south zone regional administrator, the representatives of six southern provinces shared information about formation and various activities of the Salesian Cooperators.  The participants came out with suggestions to organize a quiz competition on Don Bosco in view of the Bi-centenary celebration of Don Bosco.

On 26th morning, the cooperators from Bangalore Province conducted the solemn morning prayer, invoking God to bless our national leaders as we celebrated the Republic day. Later Mr. Asservatham Thomas, the South Zone Coordinator of Salesian Cooperators presented to the gathering a talk on ''Holiness of the Laity''.  He was appreciated for his well-prepared talk and for speaking from his heart to his fellow Salesian cooperators.

After tea break, Fr. Noel Maddhichetty, the National delegate for the Salesian family presented the highlights of the newly approved ''Project of Apostolic Life'' of the Salesian Cooperators. He also presented to the gathering the proposals made by the committee of Salesian Family congress in view of the Bicentenary of Don Bosco. The participants were invited to reflect and propose the modality of the celebration of the Salesian Family Congress.  

The conference concluded with a Solemn Eucharist, presided by Fr. Doss Kennedy, the Vice Provincial of Trichy Province. His homily highlighted the key characteristics of Spirituality of Don Bosco. The participants also visited Our Lady's Shrine at Poondi, to thank Our Blessed Mother for the gift of Don Bosco and for the vocation of the Salesian Cooperators.
