SOUTH ASIAN REGIONAL COMMISSION FOR EDUCATION AND CULTURE MEETS AT DON BOSCO PROVINCIAL HOUSE- NEW DELHI By Fr. Maria CharlesNew Delhi, Dec. 5. The 10 provincial delegates for Academic Schools and a commission member from every Salesian province in India came together from 3rd December 2011 to 4th December 2011, at the Provincial House, Okhla, New Delhi. The meeting was organized by Fr. Maria Charles, the Director DBYA- INDIA.
This is the third meeting of the commission, in recent years. The follow up meeting was to study the implementation of challenges for the Salesian Schools in India in the context of catholic Education policy of India. Fr. Kuriala Chittattukulam SDB, Secretary for Education Commission, CBCI animated the group. There was also a presentation and discussion on the Right to Education (RTE) Act and the continued challenges the Catholic Institutions face with regard to this! There was a presentation of Child Policy for the Salesian Institutions by Fr. Maria Charles. This is in preparation for a comprehensive policy on children for the Salesian Institutions in our Region. The delegates presented reports on various aspects of Education Ministry carried forward in their respective provinces.
On the second day Fr. Maria Charles presented the challenges for Salesian Schools in the context of rethinking Youth Ministry at the level of congregation and the region. The members discussed about carrying forward the deliberations of National Educational conference of Don Bosco Schools. The members went through the details of the National Directory of Don Bosco Schools 2012. The members opted for the National level training for new principals in three places, one in the South to be organized by Fr. Jose Koyickal, one in the North by Fr. Davis Maniparamben and the other in the Northeast by Fr. Jose Anikuzhikattil before May 2012. Fr. Siby Vadakel briefed us about the forthcoming National Educational Conference of Don Bosco Schools (NECDBS) to be held in Kolkata in September 2012. Booklets on Administrative Policy for our Educational Institutions were presented by Guwahati and Kolkata Provinces. Document prepared on the Protection of young people for the Salesian personnel by the Province of Mumbai was presented by Fr. BonIface D'Souza.
There were discussions on the Trade-marking of Don Bosco, national level Essay and Song competitions, web site for the Don Bosco Schools, formation of National level association of Don Bosco Schools and animation of teachers . The members resolved to formulate within a year Education Policy for their Province and bring out safeguarding measures for the protection of minors.
