Mirik holds Darjeeling-Kurseong deanery Youth Exuberant 2019

Mumbai, Jul. 5. Mirik - Some 130 high school and college youth from 11 parishes and substations of Darjeeling and Kurseong deanery held a 3 day program called ''Youth EXUBERANT 2019'' from 2 - 4 July. Rector and Principal of Don Bosco Mirik Father Ashis Das welcomed youth to the camp held with the theme: 'You are the light of the world' and 'You are the salt of the earth.' (Mt 5: 13-14).
The Camp was organised by Darjeeling-Sikkim Diocesan Youth Director Father George Lepcha who was joined by Kolkata Salesian Youth Delegate Father Patrick Lepcha and local coordinator Father Albert Kujur of Don Bosco Mirik.

Brother Peter Toppo, a regent from Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Darjeeling along with several Diocesan and Deanery Youth Leaders organised the program.

Also Jesuit Father Emmanuel, parish priest of Sittong, joined the Eucharistic concelebration marking solemnity of St Thomas the apostle on Wednesday, 3rd July.

The program which started on Tuesday morning on 2nd July had Ice-Breaking session and Biblical Act competitions. The winners of the Biblical Act competition announced on 4th July were: 1st - Immaculate Heart of Mary (Takdah Parish); 2nd - Immaculate Conception of Mary (Cathedral Church Darjeeling), and 3rd - Don Bosco Parish (Mirik).

The winners of the Cultural Competitions held on Wednesday 3rd July were: 1st - Sacred Heart Church (Singamari Darjeeling); 2nd - St Teresa of Child Jesus Parish (Sonada), and 3rd - St Mary's Church (Kankeybong).

Youth leader Mrinal Arthur Rai adds, ''Apart from these we had: 1. Lectio Divina : Practical with the Bible verses The Beatitudes (Mathew 5:1-16); 2. Tableau (Based on the life of St Thomas), and 3. Bible Searching Games (15 verses from the Bible).

The best parish group prize for over all performance at Youth Exuberant 2019 went to  Sacred Heart Parish Dhajea Busty.

ICYM Joint Treasurer Miss Prisca Subba from Lebong Darjeeling lamented the fact of low attendance of youth at the camp saying, ''The Jesuits and Salesians give priority to their own youth groups like CLC and SYM while ICYM is left with the diocese.''

Indian Catholic Youth Movement is a national youth movement under the Catholic Bishops Conference of India comprising of all youth groups.

A Team of 8 Radio Journalists including station director of Radio Salesian 90.8 FM Father C.M. Paul, Program Coordinator RJ Samir and RJs Bryan and Dikshit covered the event for Yuwa Awaz, Charcha Paricharcha, and four Radio Interns from Don Bosco University Guwahati (Tasso Konia, Aruna Lama, Doreen Ann Lyngdoh, and Manisha Bhowmick) covered the event for live broadcast during the day.

Father Alex Gurung parish priest of Darjeeling Cathedral also covered the event for his weekly program ''Divya Vani Presents'' for Darjeeling TV.
