Arthur Lenti, Author of Monumental Work on Don Bosco Dies

Kolkata, Jan. 7. Father Arthur Lenti, author of the seven-volume monumental work ''Don Bosco: History and Charisma'' died in Berkley, California, on January 6, 2022. He was 98. Father Lenti has published many articles on Don Bosco and Salesian topics in the Journal of Salesian Studies from Berkley and Ricerche Storiche Salesiane from Rome.
With Degrees in Scripture, Systematic and Spiritual Theology, Father Lenti taught Scripture in Aptos, Alma, and Josephinum for 20 years before coming to Don Bosco Hall in Berkeley in 1975. Since 1984, he has been the lead instructor at the Institute of Salesian Spirituality in Berkeley (an affiliate of the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology and a member of the School of the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley). His most recent book was Don Bosco: His Pope and His Bishop.

On his 95th birthday in 2018, Father Marcelo Escalante Mendoza released a book entitled ''Arthur Lenti: Memory, presence and hope.'' The book deals with biographical and vocational aspects and his perspectives on Salesian mission and formation.

Father Lenti was born in Northern Italy on January 31, 1923, and went to the USA at 16 years and joined the Salesians there in 1940. He was ordained a priest on July 2, 1950.
