Rev. Fr. Nirmol V. Gomes, SDB appointed as 16th Provincial of Kolkata Province

Kolkata, Dec. 15. The Salesian Province of St. John Bosco, Kolkata enters into another epoch in the history of its growth: Very Rev. Fr. Pascual Chavez, SDB the Rector Major of the Society of St. Francis de Sales, with the consent of his council, on 13 December, 2013 has appointed Rev. Fr. Nirmol Vincent Gomes, SDB as its 16th Provincial. Fr. Nirmol succeeds Rev. Fr. Thomas Ellicherail, SDB who finishes his term of office as the Provincial on 31 May, 2014.

Fr. Nirmol will take charge as the Provincial at the end of May 2014. The exact date of his installation will be announced later.

Fr. Nirmol will attend the General Chapter XXVII in Rome as observer.

Fr. Gomes, aged 54, became a Salesian on 24th May, 1979, and was ordained a priest on 22nd July 1989. He has a Doctorate degree in Pedagogical Sciences from Salesian Pontifical University, Rome in 2000. He brings into this new ministry wealth of his experience as formator and educator.

Congratulation to you dear Fr. Nirmol Gomes for this appointment and we pray that God will bless you with wisdom in your new role of animation and governance of the Province.
