Don Bosco Parish Church at Kalimpong blessed and inaugurated By Fr. Patrick Lepcha, SDBKolkata, Nov. 4. November 01, 2011 was an epoch making day for the Catholic Community of DBJOTI (Don Bosco Job Oriented Training Institute) Parish, Kalimpong. The long cherished dream was fulfilled in the event of the inauguration and blessing of the new parish church dedicated to St. John Bosco. With a participation of more than thirty priests and nearly one thousand faithful, this event was indeed unique!
The joyous liturgical ceremony started with a welcome by Fr. Augusty Pulickal, the Rector and Parish Priest of DBJOTI. The new grotto dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes was inaugurated by Fr. Davis Veliyan, the former parish priest, who is the mastermind behind the construction of the grotto and the new church.
The new church was inaugurated by Fr. Thomas Ellicherail, the Provincial of the Salesian Province of Kolkata. Thereafter, Rt. Rev. Stephen Lepcha, the Bishop of Darjeeling blessed both the grotto and the new church. The bishop led the crowd into the new church, while the people sang a hymn, imploring God's blessings.
Fr. Augusty placed a lighted candle on the new altar, symbolising the presence of Christ, who is the Light of the world. The choir of the parish led by Mr. Martin, Mr. Paul and others created a celestial atmosphere all through the ceremony.
Greater solemnity was added to the event with twelve children receiving First Communion and nine children being conferred the sacrament of Confirmation.
The Holy Mass concluded with words of gratitude from Mr. Cyril Rai, the secretary of the Parish Association and from Fr. K.K. Noble, the vice rector and director of DBJOTI.
Fr. Davis Veliyan who began the work of construction and Bro. Jacob Tete who brought it to completion with dedication, were felicitated with mementos. DBJOTI community thanked Bishop Stephen, Fr. Felix Baretto - VG of the Diocese, Fr. E.A.Thomas - Provincial, Fr. Lawrence Montero - Dean of Kalimpong and Fr. Peter Lingdamoo - Dean of Pedong.
