Indian Classical Music Concert by Don Bosco Mission, Kolkata

Kolkata, Aug. 2. The Don Bosco Mission at Diamond Harbour held its first Indian Classical Music Concert on 17th July, 2011. The event marked the conclusion of the birth centenary of St Alphonsa and Blessed Mother Teresa of Kolkata.
The three hour programme for over 500 classical music lovers featured Tabla, Vocalist and Sarod maestros. Special guest for the evening was renowned Tabla Maestro Pandit Subhankar Banerjee who had just returned from a performance in Venice, Italy. It was part of Pt. Subhankar Banerjee effort to establish Rhythm Clubs in various towns of Bengal to nurture and promote local talent.

For the first part of the evening the artistes were Sri Avijit Kastha (tabla solo) with Sri Shankar Bain on harmonium. The second part featured vocal artist Sri Subha Ghosh with Sri Debanshu Shina Roy on tabla and Sri Shankar Bain on harmonium. The concluding part had a sarod recital by Sri Debanjan Bhattacharjee with Sri Pritam Chakraborty on tabla. All the artistes who performed in the evening were from Kolkata.

It was organized by Rhythm Club of Diamond Harbour whose honorary president is the parish priest Fr M.C. Francis, well known in the arts & culture circle of Diamond Harbour town.

Fr Francis made his debut in Diamond Harbour with a  cultural extravaganza on the occasion of the beatification of Blessed Mother Teresa of Kolkata, in November 2003 at the Rabindra Bhavan Town Hall.
