Kolkata, Aug. 10. The traditional Salesian Provincial Community Day was celebrated in a new style at Nitika Don Bosco on 9th August, 2014.  Along with 54 confreres of Kolkata Province who participated in the Rectors' and Parish Priests' Meet, other confreres from the institutions in the vicinity came together to felicitate Fr. Nirmol Gomes, the two month old provincial.
The celebrations were preceded by the Rectors' and Parish Priests' Meet which began on 6th August.  The discussions and the sharing of those days gathered momentum and culminated in the Holy Eucharist presided by Fr. Nirmol Gomes at 11.00 AM on 9th August 2014.  The shared homilies focused on the person of the provincial as someone who is anointed and all the other confreres partaking in the same through their own anointing.

The Eucharist was followed by an innovative get-together, attended also by Bishop Emeritus Lucas Sircar, during which there was much joy and family spirit as cakes were cut, songs were sung and thoughts shared.  The get-together was followed by lunch.

Many topics were discussed during the Rectors' & Parish Priests' Meet which began in the evening of 6th August, with an adoration service coupled with the sacrament of Reconciliation.

On the second day the participant leaders had an open sharing about the developments and concerns of their own institutions. On 8th August, after the sharing sessions in the morning, other topics were taken up for discussion such as the bicentenary celebration of the birth of Don Bosco, implementation of the GC 27 guidelines, province level concerns as shifting the present novitiate, starting new apostolic schools and having English Medium schools along with the existing vernacular schools in some presences. Information was shared regarding the upcoming Salesian Family Congress as a conclusion to the bicentenary celebrations of the birth of St. John Bosco.

The final day was dedicated to matters regarding economy during which Fr. Vincent Mondol, Economer presented the financial situation of the province and Fr. TL Jose, Executive Director DBDOC gave a brief rsum of the recent programmes organized by DBDOC with a focus on BASE related activities and Shilpangon 2014, a career orientation programme.

All the three days were interwoven with prayer sessions ably organized by Fr. James Mathew the Vice Provincial and his team, the communities at Provincial House and Nitika and other confreres who came forward to help with various services.

Provincial Community Day 2014 was memorable because there were uplifting prayer moments, great passion in sharing and true fellowship which was very evident during the innovative get-together organized to conclude the Provincial Community Day.
