Hyderabad, May. 10. Don Bosco Wyra situated in the Thallada Mandal of Khammam District in Telangana State sheltered 100 migrants from Maharashtra for 04 days, on the request of the Thallada Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO).

On 27 April, revenue officials from Thallada Mandal visited the Don Bosco Wyra Campus to request 04-days accomodation for 100 migrants from Maharashtra, stranded in the nearby villages, during COVID-19. These migrants camping in the fields in temporary shelters and reporting for daily work, were struck with a tragic snake-bite case, in the aftermath of a heavy downpour. In order to relocate these to a safer shelter, the Salesians of Don Bosco were approached.

Readily agreeing to the request, Father Pradeep provided the primary school section for their stay and also arranged a place for cooking. The place was cleaned up with light and fan facilities, and a school staff appointed to ensure running water availability. Warmly welcomed and accommodated, these farm-hands, from the state of Maharashtra, who arrive for cotton and chilly harvesting during this season and return back with their savings, are generally accustomed to living on bare ground in temporary shelters.

The comfortable accomodation and pleasant shelter at Don Bosco Wyra  for 04 days ended on 03 May, when the revenue officials arranged a 03-lorry conveyance back to their native places in Maharashtra. The staff and a few of the pre-novices bid them adieu, even as the departing migrants gestured with smiles their gratitude, since they could not communicate in Telugu.
