TOGETHER TO REFLECT - Seminar for Catechists @ Ponnur

Hyderabad, Aug. 19. Rev. Fr. Raminedi Balaraju sdb, the Provincial of Hyderabad inaugurated a two day Province level Seminar for Catechists @ Ponnur on 16th August, 2011. Marking the preparation for the celebration of the 200th Anniversary of Don Bosco's birth the Province of Hyderabad undertaken a two day reflection on Evangelisation in Context with Catechists working in our Salesian Parishes. There were 32 plus participants for the seminar from all over the Andhra Pradesh.
The Seminar took off with a prayer animated by Fr.Jose.K in the Parish Church. The inaugural function was held at Bosco Hall, Ponnur. Fr.Jose.K the Rector of Bosco Ashram welcomed the gathering by recalling how Don Bosco started the Salesian Congregation with a catechism class to Bartholomew Garelli. The Seminar began by lighting of the lamp by Rev.Fr. Balaraju, the Provincial, Rev. Fr.Sojan, the Provincial Economer, Fr. Cheruvathur James, Mission Delegate of the Province and Fr.Jose.K the Rector of Bosco Ashram. Fr.Provincial was felicitated by Ponnur community and Catechists as he celebrates his Silver Jubilee of Religious Profession this year. In the inaugural Address Fr.Balaraju highlighted the Visit of the Relic of Don Bosco and its significance to all of us.

Explaining the purpose of the seminar, the Provincial Rev.Fr. Fr.Balaraju, presented 'Jesus is the Content and the Model of Evangelisation', Fr.Balaraju highlighted three key elements within the process - Passion for Jesus; Passion for Word of God and Passion for People will lead us to bring Gospel to the ends of the World. In the second session Fr.Cheruvathur James dealt on the topic, the Initial Proclamation of Jesus and shared the content of Mission Congress which was recently held in Kolkata. In the Third session Fr. Maniyangattuthazhe Joseph shared his mission experience, highlighting how to build rapport with people and gave practical tips how to be good catechists in the mission field. In the evening catechists went to Bapatla beach and had good swim. The day was culminated with the Holy Eucharist celebrated by Fr.Provincial. In his homily Fr.Balaraju insisted the catechists to follow Jesus and Don Bosco as their models in the field of Evangelization and the day ended with a religious film.

The Second day of the seminar began with Lectio Divina animated by Fr. Jose.K. The Fourth session was animated by Fr.Repudi Rayappa, the Director of the Pastoral Centre of Guntur Diocese, he dealt on the topic BCC (Basic Christian Communities). The Fifth session was animated by Fr.Pentareddy Jaya paul Reddy on the theme Word of God. In the afternoon Fr.Balaraju and Fr.Sojan had an interaction session with catechists, in which catechists had expressed their concerns. The two day seminar was concluded in the evening with solemn Eucharistic Celebration by Fr.Sojan, he exhorted the catechists to be true disciples of Christ. The Catechists had left the Bosco Ashram, Catechists training Centre of the Province with great joy to launch in to the mission filed........

The Chief Organiser of the Seminar, Rev. Fr. Jose.K sdb and his efficient collaborators Rev. Fr.G. Marreddy and Fr.P.Arul Das with their team were spinning around making sure the two day seminar began well, that it may end well too!
