''The Sleeping Giant Awakes'' - Don Bosco Alumni National Council Meet in New Delhi By Fr. Noel MaddhichettyHyderabad, Oct. 8. The National Council of Don Bosco Alumni-India, belonging to 9 provincial federations gathered at Don Bosco Provincial House, Okhla for their Annual National Council Meet held from the eve of 5th to 7th October 2012.
The meeting commenced with the past pupil's prayer and floral homage to the founder and guide St. John Bosco. It was officially inaugurated by the words of welcome by Rev. Fr. Michael Peedikayil SDB the Provincial of INN, in the presence of Rev. Fr. Noel Maddhichetty, the National Delegate for Salesian family, Mr. Rajiv Tickmany, the National President, Mr. Rajesh Gupta the World Confederal member, various provincial delegates and council members from all over India.
A message sent by Fr. Maria Arokiam Kanaga, the Regional Superior for South Asia was read to the assembly, which exhorted the movement of Don Bosco Alumni, India in terms of ''Awakening the Sleeping Giant''.
The minutes of the previous council was read by professor C.V. Francis. The Treasurer of the council Mr. Edward Noronha presented the financial report and the council approved it. There was a long discussion on registering of the local units and Provincial federations under the ''Society Registration Act'' of each state for better organisation and growth to which all members of the council waved a green signal.
All the provincial delegates and the presidents presented colourful reports of their provincial federations and local units. In view of creating better linkages the participants unanimously decided upon extending their full cooperation in building and launching a national website for Don Bosco Alumni-India and consecutively launching provincial and local websites linked with it.
Fr. P.P. Paul the Provincial Delegate of the New Delhi Provincial federation disseminated a gist of the ''Strenna 2013'' of the Salesian congregation for the year 2013. The chair person lead the floor open for discussions on issues faced at different levels in view of growth which brought about clarity in the council members.
Fr. M. Noel, the National Delegate articulated in his message, a call to give primacy to God dimension, to be professional, to enhance networking and to adhere to Millennium Development Goals in Social solidarity progarmme of the organisation and mission of the movement of the Don Bosco Alumni of India.
After the National president proposed the vote of thanks, the council meeting ended with a prayer of the past pupils. In the evening, the members of the council paid a visit to Don Bosco Alaknanda, where a solemn concluding ceremony was held and delightful dinner hosted by the local Salesian community, by the local alumni and the members of New Delhi provincial federation.
