Hyderabad, Mar. 7. The Extraordinary Visitation of the Salesian Province of Hyderabad commenced on March 6, 2012 at the Provincial House, Hyderabad with a solemn Eucharist in the Shrine of Don Bosco. Fr Maria Arokiam Kanaga, the Regional Councillor of the South Asia Region, met the 45 Rectors and In-charges of the Province for a conference as part of the inauguration. The previous Extraordinary Visitation was in 2005 by Fr Joaquim D'Souza, the then regional superior.
The Provincial, Fr Raminedi Balaraju welcomed the Extraordinary Visitor and pledged the support of the Province and the confreres during the days of the visitation. Initially Fr Maria shared some news about the Congregation and then moved on to describe, in general the procedure of the Extraordinary Visitation. He read the letter of the Rector Major and reiterated the importance of knowing Don Bosco and studying him, exhorting the Salesians of the Province to read more scientific literature on Don Bosco to know him profoundly.
He spoke of the Visitation as a moment of grace and a time of strengthening mutual communion between the Province and the Rector Major, and the congregation. He emphasized the need to be signs of the reign of God. Each one is called to be a man of God, he stressed. Besides this he also communicated the concern of the Rector Major about the diminishing quality of consecrated life. To this end he recommended that we ought to be holy men who live out our consecration more radically. This radicality needs to be explicitly manifested in every choice we make as religious, he added.
Fr Regional concluded the conference by recalling the purpose of the Visitation and the requirements expected by way of preparation that were issued much earlier. The Visitation is being held in two phases; the first one concludes on March 19 (during which he would visit seven communities and presences) and the second phase commences on April 7, 2012. The official visit concludes on May 22, 2012.
