Transform India through Education By Father Bivan R. MukhimGuwahati, Nov. 5. The 4th National Education Conference of The Don Bosco School Principals under the motto ''Don Bosco: Transforming India through Education'' was inaugurated on Friday, 4th November at 6:30 pm. The Keynote address was given by Prof. Ashoke Dutta, Former Director, IIM Shillong. Father Fabio Attard SDB, General Councillor for Youth Ministry, Rome delivered a special message at the inaugural programme.
In his keynote address, Prof Ashoke Dutta a past pupil of Don Bosco Liluah who has worked for more than 40 years in Multinational Corporations, Indian Business Houses and Public Section Enterprises and is one of the few eminent academics in the country who has served the academia and industry with exemplary distinction recalled his school days at Don Bosco. He encouraged the principals to cultivate in the students to 'follow the rule of law' and to 'have concern for others around them and be sensitive to their needs.'
Father VM Thomas, Salesin Provincial of the Province of Guwahati, while welcoming Prof. Ashoke Dutta said, ''To have the founder Director of IIM Shillong as the keynote speaker, is nothing short of a blessing given the fact that there is always new learning to be had given his immense experience.'' ''As a family member, being the Past Pupil of Don Bosco Liluah, we are extremely proud of his achievement,'' he added. He also said that Prof Dutta has been a great support to the Don Bosco society. Father VM Thomas extended warm welcome to Father Fabio Attard, distinguish guests and the participants of the National conference who have come from near and far.
Father Fabio Attard, General Councillor for Youth Ministry in his message encouraged all the Principals to follow the system of education set out by Don Bosco and wished that all have vision to bring changes in society through education.
Founder Director of Assam Institute of Management (AIM), Guwahati Mr. Shantikam Hazarika encouraged and enthused in the Don Bosco Principals the spirit of dedication to the field of education.
The youth of Don Bosco Institute enthralled the participants of the 4th National Education Conference with a prayer song 'Power of your Love,' a Freedom Dance and the 'Colours of Northeast' showcasing the rich variety of dances of the Northeast. The students of St. Mary's Higher Secondary School, Maligaon paid tribute to St Teresa of Kolkata through the melody song 'Mother we really love you.'
Father MC George, Secretary, Association of Don Bosco Schools, India proposed the vote of thanks. The lighting of the lamp and the floral tribute to the educator Saint John Bosco set a tone to the inaugural programme and the national education conference of Don Bosco School Principals as a whole.
