DBSTI organizes Peace Seminar on the occasion of 201 Birth Anniversary of Don Bosco

Guwahati, Aug. 17. With a view to conscientise the growing intolerance in the society, Don Bosco Socio Technical Institute, Tezpur organized a one day seminar on the theme ''Messengers of Peace'' on 16 August. The seminar was organized to mark the 2nd Foundation Day of the institute and to honour the great educator Saint John Bosco on his 201 birth anniversary.

Sixteen schools and colleges participated in the one day seminar. The participating schools and colleges delivered speeches on the theme. The emphasis was on how one can become a messenger of peace in the given situation. The speeches were thought-provoking and lively.

Shri Joyshankar, Principal Darrang College, Tezpur highlighted the need of being 'the change that you want to be.' ''Peace has its own mission and it brings love and love takes others,'' he said. He exhorted the youth to take up the challenges to meet the present intolerance scenario with courage.

Father V.M Thomas, Provincial insisted to dream and makes the dream a reality. ''Peace is possible,'' he said and added that peace should begin within us. His powerful message enthralled the youth.

Mrs Neera Sharma, the 'Bamboo Lady of India' who graced the occasion emphasized the need of bringing peace in the society by cultivating peace within. ''A good human being love nature and nature will give everything.'' She added that peace is in our blood and it should be accomplished by patience. Her experience sharing in imparting handicraft skills to the remotest areas of the country using bamboo technology as a mean to empower the poor and marginalized was well taken by the youngsters.

Mrs Rupali Daimari, professor Tezpur College in her thought provoking message asked the youngsters to feel for the other. ''When we are happy peace comes as a result of it but when you help others in need you automatically become the messenger of peace,'' she said. ''When we have peace with ourselves we are able to share it with others,'' Mrs Rupali added.

There were twenty two speakers who spoke what they can do in promoting peace. Each one emphasized the need of inculcating peace within to start becoming a messenger of peace. Some of the highlights are 'Peace is not made in the laboratory but in the heart of people.' 'Peace doesn't come by itself it is a personal responsibility.' 'Peace begins with a smile and it should be carried to the other.' 'Peace never decreases by sharing it with others and when we begin to give peace we begin to live.' Many of the participants expressed shock on the recent happening in Assam especially targeting the innocents.
Many principals of the participating institutions were present on the occasion. It was an occasion of learning what the young people needed in today's society.
