Guwahati, Jan. 23. The Don Bosco School Excellence Mission (DBSEM) facilitated one day training for all Don Bosco Principals in Guwahati province on 23rd January 2015 at Don Bosco Institute, Kharghuli. 35 schools from the province were represented. Fr. Maria Charles, the Delegate for Youth Pastoral and the Co-ordinator for Education and Culture, South Asia animated the training along with Ms. Poonam Choksi, a resource person from Adhyayan, an Institute for Quality Education Services Mumbai.
Fr. Maria Charles said that the training is part of the mega Bi-centenary project launched to carry out School Self Review and Evaluation (SSRE) in all the provinces beginning with Guwahati.

The Provincial, Fr. V M Thomas who spoke to the principals stressed on the need to offer the highest quality education to the young people particularly in the rural schools. ''We are doing a lot in the fields of education in rural areas reaching out to the marginalized and the tribals of North East. We have contributed a lot in providing access to education. It is now time to move from access to success,'' he said.

Fr. V M Thomas also lauded the works of DBSEM under the leadership of Fr. Joseph Thelekkatt. He said that DBSEM in collaboration with Adhyayan Quality Education Services Private Limited will start the process of evaluating of DB Schools to be able to achieve excellence in schools. Quoting Socrates he said, ''An unexamined life is not worth living. Similarly, it is important for us to evaluate our own performance.''

Fr. Johnson Parackal, Director DBSEM welcomed the animators and the principals and thanked them for taking bold initiative at improving the schools in the province. He exhorted all to give the best in bringing quality education in all schools set up. ''A training like this calls for coordinated effort to upgrade all our schools to a minimum set of quality indicators by 2016 to offer competitive education to children and young people, very specially, the rural youth,'' said Fr. Johnson Parackal.

''The Adhyayan's School External Review and Evaluation (SERE) team comes into action right from the time the students start entering the school and complete their day when the school ends. The schedule of the external review will be prepared by Adhyayan assessors after receiving the timetable of the school and interview slots (with parents, teachers, students and management) arranged by the school,'' said Ms. Poonam.

Most of the Principals present acknowledged the most promising outcome of the meeting was ''a general consensus on the need of maintaining Don Bosco Brand in order to strengthen the network of DB Schools.'' The meeting concluded with planning for the year 2015-2016 by Fr. Joseph Thelekkatt.
