Guwahati, Jan. 7. It will be a proud moment for the Salesians of Don Bosco who have contributed so much to the growth of education in North East India when two students Ankita Patowary, a third year civil engineering student of Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU), Azara and Hans Darius Nongsiej, a final semester MBA student from Don Bosco Institute of Management (DBIM), Kharghuli will be among the 100 meritorious candidates witnessing the prestigious parade at Rajpath from the Prime Minister's box on 26 January.
The Union HRD ministry has selected only these two students from the North East based on their academic performance in October last year and subsequently selected them on the basis of a performa/profile hey sent mentioning among others their academic background, career path and hobbies. ''The toppers in the third and fourth semesters of the four branches of our university were nominated and asked to send a proforma to the ministry. I was elated when the confirmation came on December 4,'' 21 year old Ankita, said.

Darius, who hails from Shillong said it was a privilege to be representing the Northeast. ''It is nice to be representing a region that has in the past been neglected. Given a chance to interact with my counterparts there I would tell them that our strength lies in our cultures and diversity. We must learn to appreciate one another's cultures and live in peace,'' the 21 year old who want to become an entrepreneur, said.

Fr Johnson Parackal, Executive Director of Don Bosco Institute, said, ''Darius has been our academically best student, is also willing to volunteer and socially committed. I am happy that he has been chosen for the honour.''

The two will leave for New Delhi on January 22. This year's Republic Day parade will be a momentous occasion with US President Barack Obama attending the ceremony as the chief guest.

Asked if she had anything to ask or share during her stay there, Ankita, who wants to become a lecturer after her Masters, said, If I get a chance to speak, I would highlight the fact that the North-east needs a development plan and that education should be a focus area.''
