Fr. Santosh Minj, SDB (ING) Passed Away By Fr. JayaprakashGuwahati, Sep. 15. The Salesian Province of Mary Help of Christians, Guwahati, Assam, India regrets to announce the passing away of Fr. Santosh Minj, SDB,on 15 September 2014 at 1.25 pm at St. John's Hospital, Guwahati, Assam.
Fr. Santosh Minj (55 yrs) breathed his last on 15th September at 1:25 pm in St. John's Hospital, Guwahati. Fr. Santosh had been battling with cancer of the lungs for the last one and a half years before he succumbed to the sickness. He was the Rector of the Barpeta Road community till he felt ill and could not carry out his responsibilities.
Fr. Santosh was born on 25th March 1959 in Galasuba-Basti, Udalguri to Mr. Leos Minj and Mrs. Louisa Tirkey. He made his first profession on 14th May 1979 at Sunnyside, Shillong and his final profession on 24th May 1985 at Shillong. He was ordained a priest of God on 12th February 1989 in Tangla, Assam.
After his ordination Fr Minj was sent to Canada for his studies. On his return, he was appointed Asst. Parish Priest of Kumarikata Parish and then Rector and Parish Priest of Tangla in 1992.
A good Mathematics teacher, Fr. Santosh was sent to Savio Juniorate aspirantate as Counselor and later as the administrator in 1995, and served there till 1999. In 1999 he was appointed as the Asst. Headmaster of Don Bosco School, Guwahati.
In 2004, he was appointed as Rector of the Don Bosco Technical School, Maligaon and later as the Parish Priest too. His next assignment was as Rector and Pastor of Barpeta Road in 2010 till recently when his health deteriorated. A man of calibre, Fr. Santosh was a good teacher, an able administrator and a leader par excellence. He spoke a number of languages and held a diploma in Social Development and a graduate degree in Education.
Fr. Minj's death has left a chasm among the confreres of the province and the pre-apostolic boys at Barpeta where he served the last years of his life.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, 16th September, 2014 at 2:30 pm at St. Joseph's Co-Cathedral Parish, Guwahati. This will be followed by the Funeral Rites at the Christian Cemetery, Uzanbazar, Guwahati.
