Don Bosco Institute Hosts Youth Expo 2013

Guwahati, Feb. 9. The Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati is hosting Youth Expo 2013 in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, at Don Bosco Institute.
Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development is organizing the Youth Expo in collaboration with Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati at the Institute premise from 8th - 14th February 2013. The theme of the Expo is ''Capacity Building Training on Life Skills, Citizenship and Peer Education for the Youth of North Eastern Region.''

The week-long programme was inaugurated by Mrs. Bobita Sarma, Chairperson of the Assam Film Finance Development Corporation and an accomplished artist on 8th February 2013 at Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati. The event was also graced by the presence of Mr. Kumarvel, Programme Officer, RGNIYD, Fr. Joseph Telekkatt, former principal of Don Bosco School, Guwahati, Fr. Abhilash V.J, Associate Director, DBI, Fr.Cletus and Sr. Sania Rosemary, Deputy Directors, DBI, Mr. Sunil Basumatary, Youth Officer, Dr. Athikur Laskar and other resource persons.

The chief guest, in her inaugural speech, spoke about the responsibility of each youth in building up the nation and creating a better society. She exhorted every youth present to become an agent of change and transformation though their valuable contribution. The inaugural programme began with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest, dignitaries and youth representatives.

Fr. Johnson Parackal, Executive Director, DBI, in his welcome address reminded everyone that ''Youth play a very significant role in the progress and development of any nation and our country is no exception. Therefore, we need to believe in them. We need to help our young to play more leadership roles in the society.''

The event witnessed large gathering of young people, who represent all the North Eastern States. The objectives of the Youth Expo are to ignite the minds of every youth, to instill in them the power of unity, to stimulate them for higher education and to begin the process of social change. It will also offer them a platform for cultural exchange where they learn to appreciate and value different cultures, which is also the key to integration and peaceful co-existence.

Don Bosco Institute (DBI), Guwahati having its motto, ''Building dreams and shaping lives'' is an organization specially committed to the development of youth through various activities. The Institute conducts a variety of training programmes for the different sections of youth to enable them to have a deeper understanding of the power within them.

Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development is an autonomous organization of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. RGNIYD functions as vital resource centre coordinating training, orientation, research, outreach initiatives for State and Central Governments and national level youth organizations.

The Youth Expo has become an annual event of Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati. It is jointly organized by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu and Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati.
