13 FMAs Make their First Profession on 140th Anniversary of their Foundation

By Sr. Teresa Kamsuan FMA
Guwahati, Aug. 5. On the 140th year of the foundation of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, 13 Sisters made their First profession on 5th August 2011 at Bellefonte, Shillong hailing from the three dioceses of Shillong, Nongstoi and Diphu.
At the very outset of the celebration, the parents and relatives of the Sisters generously offered their daughters to the Institute as they accompanied them to the altar. Rt. Rev Bishop Victor Lyngdoh DD, Bishop of Nongstoi diocese presided over the Holy Eucharist with more than 20 priests.
In his homily, Bishop Victor highlighted some of the challenges presented by the Church to the followers of Christ in the religious life as given in Perfectae Caritatis. He said that the core of a call to religious life is to be a missionary, giving special emphasize on the nature of our mission in the North East. A good number of people turned up to the invitation including the different religious congregations. The entire function was one of prayer and devotion remarked some of the parents and relatives. The harmonious melody of the choir of Sacred Heart Convent, Mawlai and the liturgy added grandeur to the event.
