The Provincial Chapter of the Salesian Province of Guwahati 2019 begins

Guwahati, Feb. 21. The 20th Provincial Chapter of The Salesian Province of Guwahati began on 19th February with a recollection talk by Father Jose Varickasseril SDB. His Lordship Dennis Panipitchai, Auxiliary Bishop of Miao diocese, Arunachal Pradesh celebrated the Eucharist along with the Provincial Chapter members.
The function began with a hymn to the Holy Spirit, followed by a prayerful dance and a mime by the students of DBI,  Father Januarius S Sangma, Provincial of Guwahati and the dignitaries were warmly welcomed by the Moderator of the Chapter, Fr. Francis Fernandez, Lamp Lighting Ceremony and messages from the Provincials and representatives of the Salesian Family, concluding with the keynote address by the Provincial, Fr. Januarius Sangma. After the keynote address the Moderator solemnly declared the Provincial Chapter 'Open'. The inaugural function came to a close with the vote of thanks by Father PD Johny, the Rector and  Executive Director of DBI and a hymn to Don Bosco.

At 11 am the chapter members moved to the hall to begin the formal sessions for the Provincial Chapter The first half hour was the Moderator's prerogative to explain and clarify Chapter procedures, take the roll call to make sure all the chapter members were present, validate the election of the Chapter members, appoint Chapter officials and finalise the time table. Officially the first session of the Chapter began at 11.30 am with the Provincial presenting the Report on the State of the Province.

At 2 pm with the presentation of the Working Document of the Chapter by the Moderator, following which, from 2.30 to 4.30 pm, the entire assembly broke into five groups; the first three groups discussed the three nuclei of the Chapter theme 'What kind of Salesians for the youth of today'',  namely, Priority of the Mission with the Youth, Profile of the Salesian today and Shared Mission between the Salesians and the Laity. The fourth group discussed certain Juridical Aspects and the fifth group centred their discussion on the Concerns of the Province and Provincial's Report on the State of the Province.

The last and third session of the day began at 6 pm in which the first group presented the report of their discussion on 'Priority of the Mission with the Youth'. Due to time constraints discussion on the same topic will be taken up again tomorrow.

At 7.30 pm Msgr. Thomas Menamparampil, in an informal way, addressed the Chapter Members and shared, especially his experience of working with youth. Father Stephen Mavely gave the Goodnight talk on the Assam Don Bosco University.
