Guwahati, May. 8. Don Bosco Technical School, Maligaon, Assam celebrated the Golden Jubilee of its foundation day on 5th May 2018.
The origin of Don Bosco, Maligaon goes back to 1926, when the society set up a small trade school at Panbazar, Guwahati with carpentry and a few other vocational training programmes to exist side by side with the formal school. However, in the following years, the trade school got enlarged and a plot of land became a necessity. A plot of paddy field measuring 12 acres at Gotanagar (Maligaon) was bought with the help of local people but the land was completely marshy and uncultivable and a lot of filling had to be done later to build the technical School at Gotanagar.

In 1959, the new Salesian Province of Guwahati was created and Don Bosco School at Panbazar was considered the most suitable location for the Provincial Headquarters. With the growth of the Salesian works in Guwahati, and the need to create a convenient place for Provincial house, the Technical school and the boarding house was shifted to Maligaon in 1969. This was the starting point of a dream of constructing a full-fledged technical school  at Maligaon.

Father Dal Broi started staying at Maligaon from 31st May 1968. Later on Father Mario replaced Father Dalbroi in August 9, 1968 and taken up the construction of the Technical School.  He began the construction of the Assam type tin roof U shaped building in 1968 itself.

The opening of the Technical School at Maligaon took place on 3rd February 1969.  On 11th June 1983  a meeting was held at Maligaon  to decide upon future of the Institution to move from Technical studies to academic studies. And so on 27th  September 1983, it was decided that the technical school would be turned into a residential high school for the boys of Assam plains, with the object of forming future leaders.

However, In 2012 a decision was taken to close down the academic school by December end in the same year.
A new vitality was brought to the Technical school campus with the arrival of Father Benny Alex who took a charge as Director on 20th January 2013.  Number of short duration Technical courses were introduced though various schemes and programmes.  Various trades were upgraded with machineries and equipments. The Training area began to have a decent look. The management foresaw that that the Institution holds out chances for greater growth in every way, being prime located with Kamakhya railway station just 2 km nearby, the Airport is just 16 km away, the ISBT is 6 km and NE travel hub Jalukbari is just 4 km adjacent to it.

In the year 2014 a decision was taken up at province  level with Father VM Thomas as provincial to establish a modern technical school at Maligaon campus. Accordingly work for the new set up began on  8th December 2015 with International aid from  Don Bosco Bonn though German Ministry of BMZ.  A modern Technical school is just established with state of art equipments and facility and made it to functional  from 31st May 2016 just on the 48th years of its humble beginning. The new premise was blessed by Father Porcu Mario the one who germinated the seed of vocational education way back in 1968.

A resurgent vocational education is once again became the focus point of Don Bosco's educational system at Maligaon campus.  In the recent past many of short duration courses were introduced. Added to that the Yamaha Two wheeler training for one year duration with NCVT certification began in October 2014.
