Guwahati, May. 1. The Assam Finance, Health and PWD Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma inagurated and laid the foundation stone for the Don Bosco Science College at Diphu, Karbi Anglong in the august presence of Father V M Thomas, SDB, Salesian Provincial, Guwahati and other dignitaries.
This visit was special and indeed historic in many senses as it paves the way for the beginning of the Don Bosco Science Degree College at Diphu, which will be built up with the financial assistance and help from the North East Council [NEC] and the education department of Assam.

The programme began with a brief note of welcome from Father VM Thomas SDB, and the felicitations by the college students and faculty. The Honourable Minister Mr Sarma lauded the extraordinary commitment of Don Bosco Society towards the poor and assured unequivocal support to the Don Bosco Project at Diphu.'Today I have no hesitation in acknowledging what Don Bosco is doing for the upliftment of education in the most remote part of our state. Today they could have set up this college in Jorhat or in Dibrugarh or another degree college in Guwahati; because of the brand name and the tradition of providing high level of education, any number of students would have come to Don Bosco but they have carefully chosen Diphu, that shows their commitment for uplifting the  poor and the downtrodden... I am convinced about their good work and the sincerity of Don Bosco. And apart from that I know that once Don Bosco set up an institution in this area, this will trigger a new revolution of higher education in the Karbi Anglong district'' said he.

Later the minister unveiled the plaque inaugurating the laying the foundation of the college and wished Don Bosco and its collaborators, all success for the project.
