Former Chief Minister of Kerala Visits DBI Guwahati

Guwahati, Feb. 15. Shri. Oomen Chandy, a two time former Chief Minister of Kerala made a visit to Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati today. A veteran statesman and highly revered politician, he has been at the forefront in transforming Kerala into a coveted position with his fast-track developmental initiatives.
Father VM Thomas, the Salesian Provincial of Guwahati welcomed Mr. Chandy and his friends Shri. K C Joseph, former Tourism Minister, Kerala; Mr. Chandy Oommen, son of Mr. Oommen Chandy and others into the lively gathering that had assembled in for a brief interaction with the veteran politicians. Father Thomas introduced Mr. Chandy to the students and cited his numerous achievements as an accomplished leader who is acknowledged with initiating the Kochi Metro Rail project and a High Speed Rail Corridor from Mangalore to Thiruvananthapuram.

Father Johnson felicitated all the dignitaries and gave a briefing to the guests about the various activities and programmes of the institute. He appreciated their visit to the institute and underlined its significance to the students.  In his address, Mr. Oomen Chandy commented on the need of upholding the values of honesty and integrity. He reminiscenced the hardships he faced as a young student in his native village and urged the students to become responsible citizens of the country. He implored them to be socially responsible and remarked that there could be no better ideal than St. John Bosco himself whose contribution has flourished to such a splendid worldwide institution spreading the light of wisdom to millions of deprived youth.

He shared his ruminations about his long standing association with Don Bosco and his childhood memories. He highlighted on the importance of hard work and perseverance and urged the students to be good human beings. He thanked Ms. Moreen, an MBA student of the institute from Nigeria who had shared her rich impression about 'God's own Country' after a recent visit to Kerala. Mr. Chandy invited the students to visit Kerala, as it is one of the most beautiful and hospitable tourism destinations in the country endowed with lustrous landscapes and crystal clear beaches which are mesmerizing enough to awestruck any traveler. As the programme was about to conclude, the Archbishop of Guwahati Most Rev. John Moolachira joined the gathering and felicitated Mr. Oommen Chandy.
