Father Pascual Chavez addresses Salesian Family Members

Guwahati, Oct. 24. Former Rector Major Father Pascual Chavez addressed members of the Salesian family who were gathered at the Don Bosco Provincial House, Panbazar on 23rd October. The members who were present included Salesians from the provinces of Delhi, Kolkata, Dimapur, Shillong and Guwahati, the FMAs, MSMHCs, SMIs, Salesian Co-operators and Past Pupils.  
The former Rector Major while addressing the members spoke of the contribution of Salesian India to the Salesian World. ''Salesian world is looking at India,'' he said. He added that India will become a country with more Salesians than any other country of the world.
Father Pascual Chavez spoke on the concern of vocation and supplements it with statistics. He said that the idea for the Relic of Don Bosco travelling around the world to celebrate his bi-centenary birth was to infuse a sense of love and vocation among the young people. He also mentioned that the mission of Don Bosco depends on the Salesians. He exhorted the Salesians to work for and on behalf of the young people as they represent the Salesian's past and they are the future of the congregation. ''Our responsibility as Salesian is to make available the charism of Don Bosco to the young people we encounter in our mission,'' he said.

The former Rector Major spoke of Don Rua, the first successor of Don Bosco as the 'original version of Don Bosco.' ''The great expansion of the Salesian mission that happened during the time of Father Michael Rua was to spread Don Bosco's mission,'' he added.

While welcoming Fr Chavez,  Fr VM Thomas, Provincial of Guwahati said, ''Fr Pascual Chavez fuel big dreams to the Salesians and to members of the Salesian family through his inspirational speeches.'' He welcomed Father Chavez to the province in the name of every Salesian confrere.
Father George Maliekal, Provincial Shillong province while delivering the vote of thanks said that the enthusiasm of Father Chavez does not die down with old age, sickness and tiredness, instead he continues to inspire people as he speaks to them on various platforms.

Earlier the Provincial Fr VM Thomas, Fr Sebastian Kuricheal, Principal Don Bosco School Panbazar, Fr Bivan R. Mukhim and young people welcomed Fr Pascual Chavez at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport, Guwahati. From there the former Rector Major accompanied by Fr. Provincial travelled to the Assam Don Bosco University, Tapesia Garden for the formal inauguration of the university campus at Tapesia.
