Dimapur, Jan. 30. It was a moment of grace, blessing and celebration for the Marams of Manipur, as Deacon Hingba Michael from New Maram and Deacon Anthony Rang from Maram Khullen, the biggest and ancestral village of the Marams, were ordained priests of God by Archbihsop Dominic Lumon of Imphal on January 29, 2012 at St. John Bosco Parish, Maram.
Welcoming the dignitaries, special invitees, guests and the faithful, Fr. Joseph Kindo, Parish Priest, in his speech reminded those present, of the words of St. John, ''A priest is the greatest gift God can give to a family and every priest as another Christ, becomes a perennial source of God's abundant blessings to the whole community.
''Priesthood is a great gift and a vocation which God gives to people of His choice,'' said Archbishop Dominic, during the homily. Priesthood is not claimed by any individual person. A priest is a channel of blessing for the people, he further noted. The priestly ordination of the two sons of the soil, he reiterated was the visible and concrete expression of God's love for the people of Maram region. Emphasizing on universal character of Priesthood, he pointed out that since a priest is a man of God, he should rise above his tribe and culture and be a person for all people and cultures. He should be a person ready to serve all.
The event was solemnized by the presence of Fr. James Poonthuruthil, SDB, Salesian Provincial of Dimapur Province, Fr. Jose Palely, Provincial Economer, Fr. T.S. Dominic, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Imphal and more than 80 priests and Sisters and around 3000 faithful.
