Animation and governance meeting for Rectors and In-charges in Dimapur By Fr. Tarcisius ToppoDimapur, Oct. 9. The annual meeting of Rectors and Leaders of communities was held on October 07, 2011 at Don Bosco Provincial House, Dimapur.There were 45 participants for the event.
Dealing with animation and governance, in the first session of the morning, Fr. James Poonthuruthil, Provincial, dealt with the functions of the Rectors and animators. Citing the example of Don Rua, who played the role of Don Bosco at Mirabello, he said that, everyone should fulfil the role of a father and guide, replicating Don Bosco in the communities.
Quoting article 76, of the Constitutions, Fr. Provincial noted that everything should be done in a team, together with the council. He also reminded the participants of the recommendations of the extraordinary visitation on leadership, where lot of rooms remain for improvement - working as a team, capacity to follow up the young confreres, ability to resolve conflicts, getting the collaboration of the laity, playing the role of the reconciliatory, dialogue etc. The role of the Rector as animator is crucial, he pointed out - through homilies, conferences, formal and informal meetings, going through the official documents of the Church and the congregation. He also reminded them of other duties of the Rectors and leaders such as keeping the archives in order, writing of the chronicles daily, keeping other relevant documents in order etc.
Fr. Provincial updated the confreres on the last SPCSA meeting held at Kolkata, regarding the implementation of the recommendations of the team visit in February 2011, at Bangalore as well as other matters of concern in the region - Primacy of God: greater attention to moments of prayer and practice of spiritual direction; Evangelization: making use of the potential of the laity; Religious discipline: being accountable to the community and the beneficiaries; Formation and accompaniment, institutional indiscipline, Second novitiate for those professed last 15 years, Revival of the Salesian Animation Notes, and the strengthening of the Mission Procure at Delhi.
In the second session of the morning, matters concerning formation, finance, Development were taken up. Regarding formation, Fr. K.C. Vincent, gave the general statistics of the congregation, region and the province. He particularly focused on vocational fragility in the province and said that a process of reflection is needed to bring quality to religious life and commitment. Pointing out to the changes taken place around the world, he said that, it is a period of transition with new emerging needs and responsibilities. In order to counteract this revolutionary changes in the world as well as religious life, basic awareness have to be set in motion, he noted. Fr. Jose Palely, the Provincial Economer, gave details of the financial matters of the entire province. Regarding Development matters, while, Fr. Bimal Lakra, Executive Director of AIDA, gave a brief report on the activities of the Development wing of the Province, Br. Sunny, the assistant director of AIDA, gave a report of the DB TECH as well as the MoRD projects being implemented at various centres of the Province. Fr. Nestor Guria, Vice Provincial, dealt with the Annual Plan 2012.
In the final session in the afternoon, matters of concern in the province were taken up. It was presided over by Fr. Provincial. Some of the matters were - ways of restoring credibility, Tamenglong parish and its division, Ngarian, Land matters of Joram and Tinsukia and empowering prospective Catholic students. Wide discussions were held on each of these matters.
