Dimapur, Sep. 27. The Salesian Family of Dimapur Province, in a simple yet meaningful celebration, felicitated Fr. Maria Arokiam Kanaga, on the occasion of his Silver Jubilee of priestly ordination on  September 26, 2011 at Don Bosco Provincial House, Dimapur.
The celebration consisted of the Holy Eucharist and a short  programme. Introducing the celebration Fr. James Poonthuruthil, Provincial, welcomed and thanked Fr.Kanaga, for the wonderful work being done with lots of new initiatives in the region. He especially congratulated him in the name of the Province and assured him of the prayers of the Salesian family.

Sharing his feelings about the 25 years of fidelity to the Lord, Fr. Kanaga, said that he felt pampered by the Lord, Mary, Don Bosco, congregation and the confreres. The last 35 years of religious life and 25 years of priestly life had been wonderful, and very satisfying because of the constant blessings from above, he reiterated. He pointed out that, his poor and simple family background coupled with deep faith and religiosity of the village, which is hundred per cent Catholic and the family kept him always rooted to the realities of life. Being privileged to be ordained by Pope, John Paul II, in 1986, he said that, he still remembered and cherished the message of the Holy Father on the day of ordination: You are called to be signs of contradiction.

Commenting on the Gospel passage of Jesus blessing the children, he said, that Jesus loved children, because it was a self-reflection of his own sonship. He was the eternal son of the Father. Real greatness consists of realizing that we are children of God, he noted. He also reminded that, acknowledging with gratitude the gifts that we receive is the royal way to happiness.

After the Eucharist a short felicitation programme in honour of the jubilarian was arranged by those present - Fathers, Brothers, Sisters, Co-operators and DB Alumni.
