Dimapur, Jul. 12. Altogether 16 priests of the Proivnce of Dimapur gathered for the Annual Young Priests Meet, at Don Bosco Provincial House, Dimapur, on 10 July. Fr. Maria Charles, South Asian Delegate for DBYA, and South Asian Coordinator for Education and Culture, Secretary - AIDBES, animated the 16 youthful, enthusiastic and energetic priests.
The meeting began with a sharing session on some difficulties and problems that priests in general and young priests in particular face today. The outcome of the sharing was boiled down to - the challenge to live an authentic religious priestly life in the face of growing secularism, and activity filled life, the community struggles of a young priest where his creativity and assertiveness is seen as an outrageous independence and defiance by other confreres, the struggle to live authentically the evangelical councils vis--vis the age of multimedia and changing socio-cultural values.

Later, Fr. Maria presented the six principles of priesthood where firstly a priest is to act in persona Christi. Secondly he is also a representative of the church; and he is a man for others. Thirdly, he must be aware of the need for an ongoing formation. We are not a finished product after the ordination but the beginning of a life of imitating the Person of Jesus Christ.

At the end of the session Rev. Fr. Provincial also encouraged the young priests to live credible and responsible lives as true pastors.
